Here are a few pictures we’ve taken over the past few months.

November and December In Pictures
Monday, December 22nd, 2008I’m feeling concise today.
Friday, October 31st, 2008Now that summer is over, I may spend more time blogging. Maybe.
This blog is mostly a random smattering of stuff I’ve done. Yeah, and I’m feeling concise today, so hopefully pictures are worth a thousand words.
It’s fall and going on winter. Here are fall colors at Good Earth Village.

While I was at Good Earth Village, I stained eaves and underhangs. This fulfills all my desires for painting and home improvement in general. And I didn’t get stain in my hair!

We made a trip to the Mall of America. We had to take Andy’s mac book pro back to an apple store. His first one was a dud. It takes a considerable amount of time for them to conclude that a mac book pro is a dud so I was very hungry. We then had dinner at the first restaurant at MOA we could find with no wait, Tiger Sushi. Below is a caterpillar sushi.

Total Eclipse of the Moon!
Saturday, February 23rd, 2008Last Wednesday, February 20th, there was a total eclipse of the Moon, that was visible from most of North America. Just for some history, a total lunar eclipse was last seen on March 3, 2007, and will next be seen in December 2010. So I figured it would be a good idea to brave the frigid temperatures (I’m talking ambient of -3 degrees, here) and take some pictures.
The operation was basically this: leave the tripod set up on the deck and jump out real quick with my camera, take some shots and duck back inside. I repeated this about 6 or 7 times, until it was at full eclipse and then I retired for the night. It wasn’t as “cool” as the total solar eclipse we watched when I was in middle school, but still pretty neat. Here are some photos from the event:

Other News From The Days Of Our Lives
Tuesday, February 5th, 2008Here’s some miscellaneous stuff that I couldn’t write an entire blog about individually.
- American Idol has started again. I’m so glad the WGA[EW] doesn’t consider the reality TV writers to be WGA[EW] material, because if they did I wouldn’t get to watch American Idol. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are now booked for me.
- We broke a chair. This is an office chair with like 6 legs, and one of them broke when someone was going to sit down. It is hard to believe. We threw away the bottom half of the chair, but the upper part is now our new video game chair.
- I’m knitting a sock. Lots of my friends knit, and I’ve finally caught the bug. This isn’t my first time knitting, but I haven’t done it since I was like 12. And I love knitted socks — I have enough for a few weeks worth of them. I may never knit anything other than socks.
- Andy and I decided to move the PS2 upstairs, and consequently we have rediscovered Katamari Damacy. In the past week, we’ve rolled up stuff into the moon, made the stars Virgo, Taurus, Gemini, and Pisces, and all in all we’ve made the king of the cosmos very happy. He’s wanted to cry after he’s seen some of our katamaris. We find ourselves with the Katamari music stuck in our heads quite often. We’re going to look into investing in We Love Katamari, the sequel. If I remember correctly, XPlay loved We Love Katamari so I’m guessing we are really going to like it!
- I have fallen off the picture a day wagon. I’m trying to get back on it. Stay tuned.
- I’ve read a lot of books. Maybe someday I’ll tell you what they are.

Our Blizzard And The Weather In General
Saturday, February 2nd, 2008Sorry, I have realized that this video doesn’t so much work in Safari. I know it works in firefox.
It doesn’t even work in internet explorer, but don’t get me started. It has become one of my goals to fix this video for all browsers. But seriously, use firefox. It’s just better.
We’ve had a lot of snow. We’ve had to shovel several times, and there was one day that the high was -2. Ugh! Now we’re really happy when it gets up to 20, and then we go outside without coats for short periods of time, just because it is so warm out!!
This is footage from our living room window on the day we had a blizzard warning. Andy and I went home from work early after the blizzard warning was announced, and we worked from home for the rest of the day, just in case the city didn’t have their snow plows out working hard. It was snowing, but the winds were high so that the snow was horizontal. We didn’t get a lot of snow accumulation just because the wind wouldn’t let it settle anywhere. But there were some big drifts in inconvenient places. This video isn’t that exciting and it doesn’t really do justice to the crappy weather, but there is a lot of wind and you can see the snow speeding by. And I wanted to edit a video and post it so here it is.
Mexico By Kayak
Thursday, December 20th, 2007If you’re looking for information about the Clear Bottom Kayak tour in Cabo San Lucas, the Cactus Island kayaking trip in Mazatlan, or the Hideaway at Las Caletas trip in Puerta Vallarta, then I can tell you that we’ve done all that. And we liked them all.
Here are pictures from our most recent vacation. We went to three cities in Mexico.
Our first stop was Cabo San Lucas. We started our adventures off with some sea kayaking around the tip of Baja California. They call it Land’s End. It was beautiful, and my favorite kayaking location of our trip. We took my camera, and hoped it wouldn’t get wet. Our kayaks were huge blowup kayaks and they were very stable, but very slow. I like them. They were advertised as “clear bottom kayaks”, and they were. It’s just that there wasn’t much to see and the water was very choppy so it was hard to see anything through the bottom of the kayak. But the stability won me over. We could take out my camera and feel fairly secure doing so. I know my camera is going to fall in one of these days, but it didn’t happen during this trip. So we kayaked around the island that is the tip of peninsula and then we landed on a beach for a break.

Our guide took our picture in the kayaks you see above. We also snorkeled here as well, but there are no pictures there for obvious reasons. Cabo San Lucas was my favorite snorkeling spot of the trip. We saw a lot of colorful fish and a puffer fish around some rocks that were fairly sheltered. And on land there were pelicans everywhere. They are super cool. This one (in the picture above) posed for me, but he did start to look nervous the closer I got!
These activities were really fun, but the rest of Cabo San Lucas is shopping. They have military with big guns everywhere, so that is one thing. It must get rough there sometimes.
Our second stop was Mazatlan. Again, we sea kayaked out to an island called Cactus Island. It was full of massive tangled cactuses which were very cool. Our kayaks were the traditional plastic sea kayak, so we did get wet and we couldn’t use our camera very much. We ate a snack at this Mexican restaurant (pictured below). We had guacamole with queso fresco on top. We’re going to be making this at home some time! After that we went on an “extreme” hike to a look out point. There wasn’t much that was extreme about it. There were some hilarious signs though.

Our third stop was Puerta Vallarta. We went out to Las Caletas, a beach across the bay from Puerta Vallarta. Again, we kayaked and snorkeled, but the range is really limited on those two activities. They have animals, and you can see Andy holding a parrot below. I held a monkey.
The beach was awesome, and we saw orchids as well.

So Happy Together…How Is The Weather?
Monday, December 17th, 2007I take pictures; therefore, I blog. I know there are much more interesting weather stories out there especially for one of my target audiences, but I planned to write this blog when I took pictures on December 2, 2007, so here it is anyway. This is my weather update for those of you who like to hear such things.

It is cold. It has been both colder and warmer than when I took these pictures, but I can tell you now that there is still snow and everything looks pretty much the same. It was the first shoveling of the season, but not the first snow. The snow was topped off by a nice layer of ice so you had to crack it, then shovel. Fun, ya?
Mayowood Fall Colors And Flooded Bridge
Tuesday, November 13th, 2007We went out one final time to try and get fall colors pictures. We went to the Mayowood Trail.
|
|
|
This was the first time we have been out here since before the flooding. The bridge is now closed off even to pedestrians so you have to choose which side of the river you want to visit before you go. The bridge is also covered in dirt, and there is grass growing on it. The flooding must have been crazy.
