Thursdays On First Is Back

Thursdays on First returned, and we were really excited. It was far more crowded than last year, but it was also bigger.

This building was finally finished so we could have freshly baked chocolate chip cookies again!

You might be able to find a seat — I think we sat down by Bilotti’s more than anywhere else.

There was a lot of variety of food this year as well. I probably divided my time between Bilotti’s and zPizza.

I wish we would have done this more often, but here are pictures of us at the driving range after Thursdays on First. It was a good combination.

Rain Barrels and Rain

This year, our community had a rainbarrel sale in addition to the composters. I’m not sure why this sale always falls on a rainy day, but we stood in a very long line in the rain for a rain barrel. It worked really well. We were able to water the garden and some landscaping for about a week after the last rainfall. I think we’ll get another one next year.

There were some really crazy people out there who would pose with a banana. Just kidding, she’s not crazy.

This year we had spectacular success with our ~4 year old Edelweiss grape vine. There were grapes!!

We also delved into the art of roasting coffee at home. And we liked the freshly roasted coffee a lot!!

Ah, summer. Here are some pictures from 6×6 volleyball, and the celebrating afterward. Sadly, odds are we were not celebrating a victory. I’m sure we were celebrating a birthday though!!

Gardening Update

We found a currant bush at Whiting’s, so we bought it! We didn’t have a plan for it but eventually decided that it would grow tall enough to shade the air conditioner (if we ever decide to turn it on). It was a bit of a chore to plant it, since we hit some very large rocks.

Below is a picture of the garden. There are 2 tomato plants, beans, peas, chard, carrots, peppers, spinach, onions, green onions, and maybe more.

Door County, Day 3 – Shrooms, Segways, and Campfires

This was our last day in Door County. There were a lot of places to buy local produce, and we finally found a place to buy morels. Too bad it’s so far away from home!! We had plans to buy some, but they were going to sit in the car all day. I have to believe they wouldn’t have made it.

We also went on a Segway tour at Peninsula State Park (I hope that’s the one!). I had a lot of reservations about this activity, but they are gone. We spent a while learning how to drive the Segways, and it was really quite easy to pick up. Then we drove around the park at 12 miles per hour! When we got done, our feet hurt from the intense standing. Isn’t that weird?

On our last night, we had a campfire in the fire pit outside. If I haven’t mentioned it before, we were in Door County on Memorial Day weekend, and technically, it was out of season. It was a little cold!!

Door County, Day 3 – Morning and Visiting Wineries

On this fine day, we got up at a reasonable early hour and headed out with a goal of finding wineries. Our first stop was just down the road from our house. I can’t remember the name of this harbor, but as you can see, it was a private beach.

We drove out to Simon Creek Winery, my favorite winery of the ones we visited. They had grape vines and a very nice deck.

One more thing I have to mention is that there were things made out of wine barrels that were very cool.
