This year I decided to plant Scarlet Runner Beans in my hanging basket. Scarlet Runner Beans are supposed to have beautiful orange blossoms, and they produce edible beans. I thought this was win win!
In the end (yes, the plant is dead at the time of this writing), I learned two things.
1. Beans grow up. They will not grow down, even if they can.
2. If the plant is edible, other animals will want to eat it, too.
So, my plant did grow up. It was pretty and leafy despite the fact it was not hanging down. But eventually, we noticed something was wrong with it. And we were puzzled until we saw the birds eating it.
