So I know everyone has been waiting patiently for them and we got them last night! I’d say they turned out pretty damn good. So without further ado…

Fairest of the Fairs

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Did you go to one of those grade schools that would have a book fair where they free books? I did. And several weeks ago Amber and I went to the source of those book fairs in one of those towns surrounding Minneapolis. The books at the book fairs were free for kids, but for adults these books are all 50% off or more which is a pretty good deal! Scholastic clears out their warehouse every so often…maybe twice a year is what Amber said. There were a lot of really good books there. It was about 2 pm and I had missed lunch so I ended up with 3 cookbooks (oh well…Andy likes variety). But I also got the Amulet of Samarkand, which I had wanted to read. And I got The Princess Diaries, which I have already read and enjoyed. It got 4 stars on my scale, the highest rating a fiction book can get. I’ll let you know about the other if it is worth mentioning. But all these books were less than $20. All of them were 50% off or more. So my point is that we should put this remarkable event on our calendars. It was incredible.

And Here’s To You, Mrs. Wesley

Monday, June 11th, 2007

This weekend my sister got married. It was a crazy ride. We planned, we executed, and then we partied.

There were so many memorable things…allow me to enumerate.

1. The “pagoda” where we had the wedding was beautiful. The flowers were lovely, and the lake was gorgeous. See the pictures.
2. The kitties, Divo and With, were very squirmy. But they were pretty good house guests.
3. After Hours tried to give Justin a trash bag (I mean really really large tux). They fixed it, but someone had to go bridal on them. :)
4. I can sew, and I can alter wedding dresses. Did you know? I never dreamed I was so talented.
5. Mom was lost on nearly every trip she took away from Grandma’s house.
6. We didn’t get kicked out of the pergola for the rehearsal, like we expected to.
7. My nap in between the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner was wonderful.
8. Whenever we were wondering where Justin was, he was at the Vinewood working on the decorations. He put a ton of time into it, and it showed.
9. Jon’s mom, Jean, likes Harry Potter, Star Wars, and other sci fi stuff too. It’s great to find another one of us. :)
10. The rehearsal dinner lasagna was so yummy and very filling. Grandma carried home how many containers of it?
11. We all had awesome hair do’s with beads worked into the bobby pins…although the high humidity caused my curls to fall out. Isn’t that ironic?
12. It sprinkled on the big day, but it cleared up. It was slightly overcast by the time of the ceremony, which is the best weather for photography according to the photographer. So Kristi and Jon will have the good luck and the good pictures.
13. The flowers, which were the work of Beth, were absolutely awesome. There were birds of paradise and a lot of other tropical flowers that I’ve seen but can’t put names to. You should really see the pictures. I’ve never seen such original and vivid flowers for a wedding.
14. Deana was the voice of calm reason and reassurance. She kept it all together, knew where all the stuff was, and her knowledge of what to do when at weddings was impressive.
15. Ross, the minister, delivered a wonderful ceremony. He touched on so many things that were beautiful…I’m terrible at remembering details of orations…so you’ll just have to take my word for it.
16. Kristi and Jon’s vows were the traditional “to have and to hold from this day forward” vows. How nice to hear those again. It’s been a while!
17. The bottles of water that Mom brought were a lifesaver.
18. The bridal hydration delegate (Dwight) kept Kristi so full of water we had to make a few bathroom stops…before and after the wedding.
19. There were a few sniffles of happiness during the ceremony…Grandma, Megan, any others?
20. We eventually figured out how to work the French bustle…I can remember tying only 6 loops and I thought there were supposed to be 7. Oh well! It did look nice.
21. We ate this awesome pork dish with a hint of pineapple and other good stuff. It was very good. I think the Vinewood was responsible for that.
22. I think I liked Megan’s speech the best. My sister drew a map to her house on Megan’s hand when they met. How cute!
23. Four kinds of cake!! Groom’s cake: chocolate (all gone). Tier one (lowest): vanilla (2/3 gone). Tier two: with strawberry filling (1/2 gone). Tier three: with lemon filling (3/4 gone).
24. My dad is a good dancer.
25. Deana and Jason were super cool people. I should have known, them being friends of Kristi and all. And they had some sweet dance moves. :)
26. Everyone at the Vinewood seemed like nice people and not “caterers with rules”. They were available for questions, and they did an awesome job helping where help was needed.
27. All the original gold fish died except for one. He’s still alive as far as I know.
28. Andy took a lot of pictures, but he was cool and comfortable in his Hawaiian shirt. Kudos to Jon and Kristi for their selection of attire for the guests. :)

Moving on down…

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

FYI, today I moved the wedding site from the base www.andyanddarcy.com to www.andyanddarcy.com/wedding. If you go to www.andyanddarcy.com/blog you should be redirected back here.

Sorry if I messed up any of your RSS readers or what not, but I wanted to make it easier to view the blog.

Happy Sunday everyone!

Rhubarb!

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

So today we decided to go to the Rochester Farmer’s Market, mainly to see what they had but also to see if they had rhubarb. Well it turns out that rhubarb isn’t quite ready yet in Rochester. However we did hear of a fun little festival in Lanesboro that is all about rhubarb! So hey a short 40 minute drive and we were there.

I gotta say that Lanesboro is really a cool little town. It has a very European feel to it, small unique shops and cliffs and such. Anyways, the rhubarb festival turned out to be not that big but still very interesting. They had rhubarb activities, such as rhubarb tossing and throwing rhubarb at random things. They also had people singing songs about rhubarb, where they basically just took lyrics out of popular songs and replaced them with rhubarb. One example was Rainbow Connection -> Rhubarb Connection, good stuff! :)

After perusing the festival for a while, we then went toward downtown to walk around and browse the shops. There were many interesting little shops. I’d have to say that I had two favorites, one was the Scenic Valley Winery, which was sampling a quite tasty rhubarb wine, and the other one was Das Wurst Haus, a fun little German restaurant, that I have been too before, very good food.

So after all that, and 6 pounds of rhubarb later we were on our way back home. What a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon! Now to dream up all sorts of good rhubarb recipes to make. So far I have finished a rhubarb crunch, I think next on the list is rhubarb sorbet…

Now stories are great and all but how about some pictures? Well here ya go…

What to Watch?

Friday, June 1st, 2007

So I am tired of having Tivo record Sex and The City for me. What should I watch in its place? I like funny and I am not opposed to SciFi. But please, no crime shows, medical dramas, or anything educational. Please leave your opinions. Thanks!

And I should probably also mention that I find shows about home improvement and makeovers completely addictive (anything on MTV would fall into that category) so I try to steer clear of those.

My State of the Union Address For This Week

Friday, June 1st, 2007

So how is everyone? I’m fine. I’ve just been going to work all week, and all that stuff. I did some gardening this week, but that was about it. No yoga, no volleyball, all due to there being a holiday this week. You know, now that our wedding is over, we can begin to think about all that stuff we were putting off…like refinishing (or rather finishing) the deck and buying a sump pump. And I’ve got to start reading the book club book (by Sunday night at the latest). But maybe I’ll procrastinate just a little longer on those. Today we got our official marriage license so I can begin my name change. That’s a lot of work, but not as much work as planning a wedding. I’ll probably procrastinate a little on that too. :)

Tonight we’re seeing Shrek, so I’m prepared to see a fabulous movie! Come one come all.
