Rhubarb!

So today we decided to go to the Rochester Farmer’s Market, mainly to see what they had but also to see if they had rhubarb. Well it turns out that rhubarb isn’t quite ready yet in Rochester. However we did hear of a fun little festival in Lanesboro that is all about rhubarb! So hey a short 40 minute drive and we were there.

I gotta say that Lanesboro is really a cool little town. It has a very European feel to it, small unique shops and cliffs and such. Anyways, the rhubarb festival turned out to be not that big but still very interesting. They had rhubarb activities, such as rhubarb tossing and throwing rhubarb at random things. They also had people singing songs about rhubarb, where they basically just took lyrics out of popular songs and replaced them with rhubarb. One example was Rainbow Connection -> Rhubarb Connection, good stuff! :)

After perusing the festival for a while, we then went toward downtown to walk around and browse the shops. There were many interesting little shops. I’d have to say that I had two favorites, one was the Scenic Valley Winery, which was sampling a quite tasty rhubarb wine, and the other one was Das Wurst Haus, a fun little German restaurant, that I have been too before, very good food.

So after all that, and 6 pounds of rhubarb later we were on our way back home. What a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon! Now to dream up all sorts of good rhubarb recipes to make. So far I have finished a rhubarb crunch, I think next on the list is rhubarb sorbet…

Now stories are great and all but how about some pictures? Well here ya go…
